#WorstFirstDates

So there's a twitter tag that's popular right now called "#WorstFirstDates". It was started after Jimmy Fallon (a late night talk show host) asked his twitter followers to tweet to him their worst first date stories. The tweets are a mix of horrifying, funny and just plain odd. Although the majority of them are pretty common, such as "he flirted with another girl", "His pictures were outdated", "He wouldn't shut up about his ex". Which I think have happened to almost every girl who has been on a couple first dates, so I won't include those stories...

But seeing as the entire theme of this blog is to make note of all the cringe-worthy things that have happened to me while online dating, I figured I'd contribute by making a list of all the horrible first dates I've had... Let's begin, shall we?

I thought I'd start off with the very first date I ever had with a man I'd met online... Why I didn't immediately stop after that one, I'm not quite sure.

#1 - Smell 'em Before You See 'em
I was always told to stay rather public when first meeting a guy from online, so I arranged a casual lunch date at the local mall.  The guy showed up early and texted me asking if I was there yet. I was in the middle of shopping, so I asked him if he wanted to wait or to come meet me while I finished up. He offered to come meet me, so I let him know where I was.

Shortly after that, a man walks by looking and smelling like he hadn't washed his clothes or showered in a month. He vaguely resembled the photos on his profile, but I wasn't quite sure if it was him or not so I didn't say anything... Then he noticed me and came over to strike up a conversation.

I try very hard to not be judgemental about peoples personal hygiene habits, but this man was absolutely repulsive. I politely finished up shopping then we went to have lunch at the food court. I offered to pay for myself, and ordered the smallest serving of french fries I thought I could choke down... I could barely eat, though. Everything about this guy just seemed dirty, his hair, his breath, his clothes... It was disgusting.

Beyond his appearance though he just seemed like a really dull person. He wasn't as interesting as he seemed over messages, and he had a hard time carrying on a conversation without going off on some tangent about something entirely unrelated.

Anyways, after lunch was over I excused myself and said I had to go home to study for an upcoming test. When I got home I deleted his number and all his messages. He still occasionally checks my profile, which is super awkward. But he never messages me anymore. That was one of the worst first dates I've ever had...

If you'd like to read more of my worst first dates, check out the links below. Since there have been quite a few memorable (for all the wrong reasons) first dates. I will continue to update this post if (more like when...) I have more bad first dates.
